How to reach the School

  • The University of Sussex campus is well served by public transport with Falmer train station on the south side of campus, and frequent buses on campus to and from Brighton. The adjoining A27 also gives good access by car. The 23, 25, 28 and 29 buses run between the centre of Brighton and the University, bringing you directly to campus. You can catch a bus from the Old Steine in Brighton; the 25 also runs from Churchill Square. The 28 and 29 go from the Old Steine and stop right outside the University campus on their way to Lewes and beyond. Travel time is about 20-30 minutes. Bus timetables and information is available from Brighton buses.

How to reach the Department

The Department of Mathematics at Uppsala University is located about 2.5 km south to the central station in Uppsala, as part of the complex constituting the Ångström Laboratory. Information can be found below on how to reach the Department together with numerous hotel recommendations.

If you travel by plane to Arlanda Airport, you can reach Uppsala by train or by bus:

  • Train to the central station. Timetable: Train.
  • Bus 801 to the central station. Timetable: 801.
  • Bus 802 directly to the Ångström Laboratory. Timetable: 802.
If you travel by train, you might want to find your journey here: From Uppsala city to the Ångström Laboratory:
  • Bus 9 towards Ultuna. Timetable: 9
  • Bus 17 towards Gottsunda. Timetable: 17.
  • Bus 20 or 60 towards Graneberg. Timetables: 20, 60.
  • It is a nice walk if you have time. Takes about 30 min.
  • Find your journey here.

Buses 17 and 20 depart from the bus terminal just outside the central station (the rightmost red dot in the map to the right). Buses 9, 17, 20 and 60 depart from Stora Torget.

The map to the right shows the Campus Area. The buses stop between Building 2 and the Ångström Laboratory, which is also the name of the busstop. The Department for Theoretical Physics resides in Building 19.

Have a look at this map for a suggestion to how to walk from the central station to the department. An additional discription in words is probably necessary: At the main entrance of the central station, you should be able to see a red castle at a hill in the distance. Walk in that direction (along Bangårdsgatan) until you reach the river. Turn left (south). Be sure to cross the river at the next bridge. Follow the river downwards. You will finally reach a stadium, then a parking place. In the summer you will also notice a miniature golf court. Just behind the parking place and the miniature golf court, turn right at the sign "Polacksbacken". Cross one road and continue at the sloping road. After the gate, turn right and you are just about to find yourself between Buildings 5 and 6.

For those traveling by car there is an informative map describing the route.

Prior residence

Prior to June 2006 the department was located at MIC, which is number 46 on the Uppsala map, and which can be more closely inspected on the MIC-map.

My office was located on the fourth floor in Building/House 3; here is a photography of the building:

Here is a sketch of the area together with a description of how to get here.
